Member HighlightsMember Spotlight: Neil Romero

September 24, 2025by CRC Staff

Before joining the UBC, Neil Romero worked for a non-union labour broker. After joining Local 1985 in March 2024, Neil immediately noticed the difference between his previous non-union job compared to a membership with the UBC.

He was astounded not only by the pay difference for Union members but also by the fact that he would be receiving health benefits and a pension. Additionally, Neil could start his carpentry apprenticeship, an option that wouldn’t have been available through his previous non-union employer.

After his initiation, Neil was connected with a Union Contractor and dispatched to a project about two hours away from his home. Fortunately, Neil found a living space despite short notice and would end up being one of the last carpenters working on site before that project shut down for winter.

Local 1985 is proud to have Neil as part of the UBC membership and will continue to support him towards his goal of becoming a Red Seal union carpenter.
