Apprenticeship Service Program (ASP)

The Apprenticeship Service Program was an initiative aimed at increasing access to apprenticeship opportunities for young Canadians and underrepresented groups. By partnering with industry leaders and government bodies, the UBC Canadian District successfully placed thousands of new apprentices into rewarding careers.

The program provided wage subsidies to employers, ensuring that financial barriers did not stand in the way of hiring and training the next generation of skilled tradespeople.

Sisters in the Brotherhood Workforce Enhancement Readiness Program (SIBWER)

The Sisters in the Brotherhood Workforce Enhancement Readiness Program (SIBWER) was an initiative aimed at preparing women to enter and succeed in the skilled trades. This program focused on providing participants with the foundational skills, confidence, and knowledge needed to thrive in the industry from day one.

SIBWER offered comprehensive training that included both technical skills and soft skills, such as communication and teamwork, which are critical for success on the jobsite. The program also provided mentorship from experienced tradeswomen, creating a support network that helped participants navigate the challenges of starting a career in the trades.

Through SIBWER, the UBC Canadian District ensured that women were not just prepared but fully equipped to embark on rewarding careers in the skilled trades. The success of this program has contributed to a more diverse and inclusive workforce, opening doors for women across Canada to build strong, sustainable careers in the construction industry.
