The UBC is proud to share that members McKenna Goodwin of Local 93 and Delaney Krieger of Local 494 have been named winners of WXN’s Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100 Awards! These awards recognize women across Canada whose leadership and influence are transforming industries and communities.

Both McKenna and Delaney are Journeywomen who, in addition to their work on the tools, are involved with Build a Dream, an organization which delivers specialized programs to support the recruitment, retention, and advancement of women in careers where they are under-represented.

McKenna Goodwin was recognized for her leadership and advocacy advancing EDIA in Canada’s skilled trades. A Red Seal carpenter, McKenna serves as Manager of Career Services at Build a Dream, is a chapter co-host for Women on Site, and is Vice-Chair of the CSA Z301 committee on inclusive apprenticeship.

“Being powerful means having the confidence and ability to make a difference, not just for yourself, but for others too,” said Goodwin, “It’s about speaking up, using your skills, and helping break down barriers so more people feel included and supported. Real power comes from lifting others up, staying strong through challenges, and standing up for fairness and equality in work and in life.”

Delaney Krieger was awarded for her work identifying and removing systemic and environmental barriers within the industry. She is a Red Seal interior systems mechanic, Senior Manager of Career Services at Build a Dream, and has worked in program development, committee leadership, and public speaking at the provincial and national levels to improve workplace culture and support for all workers.

“Being recognized by WXN is such an honour,” said Krieger. “I plan to use this platform to amplify the voices of women and underrepresented groups in the skilled trades, and to keep advocating for the retention, support, and advancement they deserve. This work is only just beginning.”
