Significant developments have begun on the Surrey Langley SkyTrain project, a rapid transit expansion that includes eight new stations connecting Surrey to Langley in British Columbia. The first segments have been lifted into place, marking a major milestone for the project. In total, UBC members will work to secure approximately 4,400 of these guideway segments.
Local 2404 members are pile driving to prepare the ground for the new stations while Local 1907 members are working on carpentry, scaffolding, and completing formwork and precast for the elevated guideway.
As Business Representative Ken Podgornik aptly states: “The extension brings good, family-supporting union jobs to our community, strengthens local infrastructure, and ensures that public investment benefits working people.”
In addition to gaining numerous work hours, UBC members are helping expand an integral system that will provide significant improvements to travel times, promote sustainable transportation, and support economic growth and community development.
