Celebrating the cultural contributions, talents, and strength of 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals is the primary pillar of Pride Season in Canada. Fun events are held in different regions across the country to honour the trailblazing efforts of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, and some of the Locals under the Carpenters’ Regional Council will be participating. We’ve compiled a list of activities happening in your region with your Local:
ONTARIO
- On June 29th, a parade of colours, music, and floats will cruise down the major streets of Toronto. Local 27 and Local 675 will participate in the festivities with a float that members and their families can ride.
SASKATCHEWAN
- Pride Parades will happen in Regina and Saskatoon on June 15th and June 22nd respectively. Local 1985 participates with a float featuring a giant rainbow! Members and their families can ride along on the float to wave at spectators and pass out beaded necklaces.
ALBERTA
- The Office to Advance Women Apprentices (OAWA) Alberta will attend Pride in Construction in Calgary on June 6th. The OAWA will have a booth where other attendees can learn more about the office. Later at the event, an OAWA team member will participate in the fireside chat.
- Local 2103 will be attending the Calgary Pride Parade and festival on August 31st. Members can represent Local 2103 and celebrate the city’s diverse and inclusive 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
MANITOBA and BRITISH COLUMBIA
- Locals in Manitoba and B.C. commemorate Pride by wearing and handing out t-shirts to support the movement. Community festivities also take place in different cities in both regions. If you hail from anywhere in Manitoba or British Columbia and are curious about what is happening in your respective areas, check out your city’s website or community discourse pages to learn about what they’re hosting.
Reach out to your Local office by phone or email to register and participate in the Pride event in your area.
Locals participating in Pride events will hand out exclusive Pride swag that can include t-shirts, sunglasses, hats, and more. At the Pride event with your Local, ask a Business Representative or staff member about what kind of swag they have!
Regardless of area or city, a Pride celebration could be happening near you. If you want to learn more, research online through your city’s events webpage or talk with neighbours who may have additional insights about events. Everyone is welcome to participate in this fun and joyful season!
