Each year, the UBC Canadian District runs the National Apprenticeship Competition (NAC), where the best apprentices from across Canada compete in their trades for the title of National Champion.
Locals from across Canada nominate apprentices in carpentry, interior systems, floor covering, millwright, and scaffolding to compete against their peers in regional showcases, where winners earn a spot at NAC.
NAC 2026 took place from September 30 to October 2 and was hosted at the Carpenters’ Regional Council training centre in Toronto. Alongside the competition, the event featured showcases in exterior cladding and trim, tours for local high school students to expose them to a career in the trades, and social was also thrilled to host some of Canada’s elected officials at the event, including Ontario Premier Doug Ford and Secretary of State for Labour John Zerucelli, who came to show their support for the next generation of skilled trades workers.
Congratulations this year’s NAC winners:
- Carpentry: Andrew Peterson, Local 2026, Ontario
- Scaffolding: Jade Stelkovics, Local 1325, Alberta
- Millwright: William Haché, Local 2182, Quebec
