To celebrate Valentine’s Day, we are sharing the love story of two UBC Local 27 members along with exciting news that their family is growing.
In the Fall of 2018, Gabby Treacy and Michael Sauer bonded over their similar demeanors and their experiences in the trades. “Most of my family and friends don’t work the trades. Gabby gives me good advice because she gets what I’m going through,” says Michael.
Soon enough, all their free time would be spent creating memories together. Their greatest one was when their son Christopher was born. The couple quickly embraced their new normal, helping each other at work and at home. “We’re grateful to have each other, to share the weight and divvy up responsibilities. There’s always someone to rely and lean on,” they explain.
The union has helped give Gabby and Michael stability so they can focus on their careers while also building a family. “Having two good incomes and benefits is huge. We’ve both put almost 10 years into our pension too,” says Michael. “We’ve been able to advance in our chosen fields which doesn’t happen for many people outside of the union.”
As their careers have grown, so has their desire to expand their family, with Michael and Gabby overjoyed to announce that they will soon be welcoming their second child. They hope for a future of continued health and happiness, and they extend the same warm wishes to the membership for Valentine’s Day.
