<p><strong>Historical Background – Local 527</strong></p>
<p>Local 527 was chartered on February 14th, 1940, under the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, marking the establishment of a strong union presence for carpenters on Vancouver Island. Founded during a formative era for the province’s construction industry, the Local brought together skilled tradespeople committed to professionalism, safety, and solidarity in the workplace.</p>
<p>From its base in Nanaimo, Local 527 has long represented the interests of carpenters and allied workers across the region, contributing to many of the island’s key building projects and community developments.
