In an innovative approach to high school co-ops, UBC Local 2222 partnered with the Bluewater District School Board and the Nuclear Innovation Institute to launch the Energy Sector Co-op in Kincardine. This program allowed 26 students to explore up to 25 different occupations over four months, offering hands-on experience in areas like welding, pipefitting, and project management. With the clean energy sector poised for rapid growth, this initiative is a vital step in addressing the skilled trades shortage and preparing the next generation for success. As demand for skilled labor continues to rise, particularly with Bruce Power’s ongoing projects, UBC Local 2222 is not only filling immediate needs but also building a robust workforce for the future.
