October 9, 2023by Communications

The Trade Winds to Success program is a unique initiative that supports individuals from Indigenous communities in accessing education and professional training in millwrighting. UBC Millwright Local 1460 Alberta has been a proud supporter of this program since 2010. The program provides a comprehensive education and training experience for students – including job readiness skills, training in workplace safety, and hands-on apprenticeship opportunities. The program is designed to empower and support students in building successful careers in the millwright trade, a highly specialized field.

Through mentorship programs and hands-on training, the union has been educating and empowering students from Indigenous communities to succeed in the millwright trade and Local 1460’s commitment to developing the next generation of millwright professionals is evident in the most recent graduation cycle of Trade Winds students.

“The 2023 graduates of the program are exceptional examples of the program’s success. These students have demonstrated their commitment to learning and have shown exceptional potential in the millwright trade,” says Stan Howell – Regional Manager, Millwright Regional Council.

The Millwright Regional Council’s steadfast support of the Trade Winds to Success program has led to the mentorship of more than one hundred students to date. The dedication to the success of the graduates is evident, and the ability for every student to apply their unique perspectives and experiences to the industry will lead to a stronger workforce overall.

“We are committed to supporting our communities and delivering apprenticeship training programs that provide meaningful millwright career opportunities through the Trade Winds Programs”. Mark Beardsworth, Executive Secretary-Treasurer, Millwright Regional Council.
