ProjectsBHP Jansen Potash

December 2, 2025by CRC Staff

Potash, a mineral used primarily in fertilizers, plays a critical role in supporting global food security by boosting crop yields around the world. Saskatchewan is at the heart of this industry, home to 45% of the world’s known potash reserves and recognized as the most productive potash-producing region on the planet.

UBC members are directly contributing to the future of this vital sector through their involvement in the BHP Jansen Potash Mine, with contractors Skykeeper, Industrial Scaffold Services Ltd, and Southeast Construction. More than 200 members have already played a role in construction, bringing their skills and expertise to a project of global significance.

The Jansen mine, located in east-central Saskatchewan and owned by BHP Billiton, is set to become one of the largest potash mines in the world. Once fully developed, the mine will produce up to 8.5 million tonnes of potash annually. Stage 1 of the project is underway and expected to be completed by mid-2027, generating more than 600 permanent jobs once operational.

Together, UBC members and contractor partners are helping to build an operation that will support Saskatchewan’s world-leading potash industry for decades to come.
