Local 2499 members are engaged in the largest capital project in the history of the Yukon Territory: The Nisutlin Bay Bridge Replacement Project in Teslin, YT. This project was awarded to UBC contractor partner Graham Construction LP for $160 million and began in the fall of 2022. Both the teardown of the old bridge and the construction of the new one are being carried out by UBC members. The new Nisutlin Bay Bridge will replace the existing trestle bridge, which is approaching the end of its service life.
At nearly one kilometer long, it will be the longest bridge on the Alaska Highway, which runs from British Columbia through the Yukon to Alaska. The bridge’s increased load capacity will be crucial for meeting the growing needs of Yukon communities and supporting the region’s mining industry. Thanks to the dedication of UBC members, this landmark project is on track to provide safe, reliable, and modern infrastructure that will serve the Yukon Territory and beyond.
