November 8, 2024by CRC Staff

Carpenters’ Regional Council (CRC) members in Alberta know the importance of scaffolding that is safe, reliable and versatile. Now they’ll have an opportunity to manufacture it thanks to a major new investment from Bartlett Group, one of the CRC’s signatory contractors.

An innovator in industrial services and custom metal fabrication, Bartlett announced its new Canadian headquarters and manufacturing facility in Strathcona County on October 2, 2024. The roughly 142,000 square foot facility located on 10 acres of land just east of Edmonton will manufacture industrial scaffolding for Bartlett’s construction clients across North America.

The facility is expected to create 100 permanent jobs and seasonal peaks of up to 150 jobs, with the manufacturing work to be fulfilled by members of Locals 2010 and 1325. The facility is being retrofitted and will begin operations in the coming months.

“Bartlett is investing in Albertans, we seek to align our experience with the province’s greatest resource: its people,” says Scott Thibodeaux, Bartlett Group Director of Operations Canada. “We intend to create a diversified workforce and manufacture our proprietary scaffolding using Canadian steel. Simply put: Canadian made, Alberta proud.”

In support of the project, the CRC helped connect Bartlett Group to the Government of Alberta and in turn Invest Alberta, the province’s investment attraction organization, which assisted with available incentives and business connections.

“By establishing their industrial scaffolding manufacturing facility in our industrial heartland, Bartlett is creating jobs, supporting the local community, and growing Alberta’s economy,” says Matt Jones, Alberta’s Minister of Jobs, Economy and Trade.

“The new scaffolding manufacturing plant will help broaden the range of work opportunities available to our members,” says Kurt Kashuba, CRC Regional Manager for Alberta and British Columbia. “We’re proud to collaborate with Bartlett and explore ways we can continue to support them as they expand into the Canadian market.”
