Training Updates

In 2026, the UBC will expand training opportunities for members across the Western provinces:

Alberta

Flooring training is now available in Edmonton (Local 1325) and Calgary (Local 2103), giving members the opportunity to explore a new sector and enhance their employability.

The Fort McMurray training centre, which opened last year, is currently offering scaffolding apprenticeships. This spring, the UBC will be piloting a hybrid scaffolding apprenticeship that combines online theory with hands-on training. Carpentry apprenticeships will also be introduced to Fort McMurray in the near future, eliminating the need for local members to travel for training.

British Columbia

Land has been purchased for a new training centre for Victora Local 1598 on Vancouver Island. Once complete, the facility will allow members to access training locally without travelling to mainland B.C.

  • Edmonton (Local 1325)
  • Vancouver/Delta (Local 1907)
  • Regina (Local 1985)
