UBC Local 27 members are working at the new Toronto Zoo Community Conservation Centre, a major project as part of the Zoo’s overall master plan.
This modern, low-carbon building will use mass timber and other green systems to lower its carbon footprint. The education spaces in the building will include research and teaching labs and classrooms, which will be shared by University of Toronto Scarborough students and Toronto Zoo staff to support hands-on research and learning.
UBC members have been installing the mass timber, building on a long tradition of working with PCL Construction on projects that use this innovative material, such as Limberlost Place at George Brown Polytechnic. Their efforts show how UBC members help set new, more sustainable standards in the industry.
